They support you in the field and in training, thanks to their breathable properties. They also have large pockets, so you can keep your valuables dry. If you still have to do your stable work, don't worry about the mud. The wide leg cuffs allow you to wear yard boots or even wellies.
In addition to waterproof riding breeches, we also have windproof and waterproof half chaps and waterproof overtrousers for horse riding in our collection to keep you dry at all times. Choose from a wide selection of cuts and colours and stay warm and dry no matter the weather.
The fabric most waterproof riding breeches are made of is smooth. This means it can repel water and dirt well, but is not ideal for riding. With such riding breeches, you are likely to slide back and forth in the saddle. That's why waterproof riding breeches are equipped with a seat. This can be a knee patch, ¾ or full seat. This feature helps you sit properly and securely in the saddle. It is usually made of polyester. This is practical because you can machine-wash the breeches at up to 30°C without any problems. In winter, a pair of thermal breeches can be worn instead of waterproof breeches. For the rest of the year, we recommend buying waterproof breeches made of a lightweight material.
Finding a truly waterproof, not just water-repellent, pair of breeches is not easy. The problem lies in the conflict between breathability and waterproofing. These two requirements do not mix well, but breathability is just as important as waterproofing when it comes to long term comfort. Therefore, most breeches, including specialised waterproof breeches, are water-repellent, but not fully waterproof. Decathlon advertises its winter breeches "Kipwarm", which have been available since 2017, as waterproof breeches. The lining is made of fleece and the outer material is made of a waterproof but breathable membrane. However, the seams of these breeches are not taped, so water can definitely get in. Pikeur also offers waterproof breeches. They are also designed as overtrousers and reach down to the knees. These are summer riding breeches made of a mixture of polyester and elastane.
