The D-ring bit lies smoothly in the horse's mouth and prevents the bit from being pulled. This helps compensate for an unsteady hand. It also makes it a good choice for inexperienced riders and young horses.
The fixed rings also lead to a more direct and precise action than with a loose ring snaffle and allow for targeted aids to be given.
D-ring snaffles can be made of stainless steel, copper or rubber.
